This is an inexpensive case.
I think
I paid around $40 for it at the
local computer store.
The paint is automotive
paint from Wal-Mart.
I took the whole case apart.
Everything. I cut out the fan holes with a hole-saw. Grinded the
rough parts with a dremel. I cut the side window out with my jig
saw and dremel. The inside of the case is painted red. The
exterior was wet sanded down to bare metal. I put on several coats
of primer, wet sanding in between. I even wet sanded between
layers of paint. Once I had it painted I let it dry for two weeks,
then coated it with
Turtle Wax.
I also sprayed the inside of
the panels with vehicle undercoating. It took a long time to dry,
but it really cuts down
on the noise.
This is a file server I
built for my home. I didn't need anything fancy as far as
hardware. But a paint job can sure make an old computer shine!
