Part 4 - Installing My Stuff
| I ran my phone line after ripping out the old one. This house I live in is
125 years old, these were some old phone lines. I'm not going to explain how to
run a phone line, you can find plenty of websites for that, I'm only going to
explain the ISDN part. |
|
I removed the cover for the phone jack and remove the phone line connecting
it. Grabbing your new dual phone jack plate for the replacement. I used the jack on
top, for my analogue phone line and the bottom jack for my ISDN line. Hooking these
wires to the new jack is easy.
- Unscrew the screws about halfway using a Phillips screw driver.
- Remove about 1 inch of insulation from the phone wire.
- Remove about 1/2 of an inch of insulation from
the 4 wires.
- Match the wire colors to the wires on the jack.
- Wrap the phone wire around the screw and tighten it down.
- Repeat for both lines.

Wiring you wall plate.

|
| Secure the wall plate back to the base. Congratulations, We're done
installing the line. |

Secure your wall plate.

|
Now we need to run a wire from the phone jack to the ISDN
router.
|
- With your phone wire, cut a desired length. I needed about 6 feet.
- Trim the insulation off one end of the phone wire. This will be about 3/8
of an inch.
- Align your wires in a row by colors from left
to right:
BLACK RED
GREEN YELLOW
- Grab one of your RJ-11 Jacks
- While holding the phone wire in one hand, hold the RJ-11 in the
other with the tit facing down.
- Push the phone wire into the RJ-11. Be careful not to get the order out of
place. Be sure you push the wire in as far as it will go.
- Use your crimpers to crimp the RJ-11 plug.
Now we are finished with one end.
- Trim about 1/2 of an inch of insulation off the other end of your wire.
- Arrange your wires from left to right in the same order as above:
BLACK RED
GREEN YELLOW
- This is where you must be careful. The RJ-45 is made for 8 24 gauge wires.
You will be using the 4 in the middle. You will have two blanks on each
side.
- Push the wire in the RJ-45. Be sure the wires are in the same order.
- Then crimp the wires.
|
Be sure your wires are in the correct order.

|
| Now you can plug one end into the phone jack and the other end into the ISDN
router. |
