Create a VPN server with Windows 2000 Server

Click on the picture to the right of the instructions to get an image of each step.

1) Open Routing and Remote Access in Administrative Tools
2) Right click on the server name and choose Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access.
3) The first screen you will see is a welcome message and an introduction to the setup wizard.
4) On the next page you will have many choices for configuring Routing and Remote Access. Be sure and choose Virtual private network (VPN) server.
5) This page list the network protocols installed on your computer and that will be used with your VPN. I only use TCP/IP. If you need additional protocols like NetBEUI or IPX/SPX you can install them here.
6) Now the wizard wants to know what interface you want to use for your Internet Connection. If you only have one network card like me, choose <No Internet connection>. With two network cards you can specify which interface that will accept VPN connections and your server act as a firewall. Choosing no Internet connection doesn't mean no one can connect to your server.
7) If you have DHCP setup on your server, you can use it to automatically assign IP's for VPN clients. Although you can specify a range of IP addresses for clients, I recommend that you use DHCP. This way, you save a lot of headache setting up the client side. DHCP will assign DNS, WINS and other useful information for getting around your local area network.
8) After you hit next you will get a warning telling you to make sure DHCP is configured properly.
9) If you want to use and setup a RADIUS server, you can do it here, but local users will work just fine.
10) Now click FINISH and Routing and Remote Access will restart.
11) Now Routing and Remote Access will have a green arrow next to the server name.

Now you have a few more things to configure.
